Circa 1850 Ale - Bristol Glass Works - H. Ricketts

This is a really interesting ale with a fancy patterned shoulder slug, embossed PATENT. The style is akin to a Danish style ale. I assume it was blown at the Bristol Glass Works. This was dug from a pontiled layer in a Philly privy and must date from the early 1850's, but it doesn't appear to be pontiled or the pontil is obscured. The bottle was blown in a 3-part mold. It has an applied double taper top. Nice overall crudity with stretch marks, some whittle etc. .

Embossed: (shoulder) PATENT // (base) H. RICKETTS / BRISTOL

Height:  8 3/4"
Color: deep grassy olive green

Condition: structurally perfect (no dings, chips, cracks). It's an uncleaned dug bottle having some patchy stain and light surface scratchiness that could easily be polish cleaned if desired. It has a nice glowy patina and I like it as is. The only other thing is the base embossing is a bit muddy but readable.

Reference Number:  T113

Price: $140

The bottle here is 2nd from the left in this color splash photo.
