Pontiled HEISS Superior

Circa 1845-1850 Pontiled HEISS Superior Soda or Mineral Water, Philadelphia

Seldom seen for sale, here is a decent example of a very tough to find Philly blue sided soda. It's the 8-sided Heiss with embossing on all panels, one of my favorites. Very attractive. Sharp applied taper top, robust iron pontil, and nice overall glass crudity with loads and loads of micro-bubbles. It's so crude that it tilts significantly to the side. Excavated in Philly in early 2022.

Embossed: WM HEISS JR // MANUFACTURER OF // SUPERIOR MINERAL / AND SODA WATERS // NO 213 NORh 2d St // PHILAD.A // THIS BOTTLE / TO BE RETURND. (note misspelling)

Height: 7 5/8"
Color: steely cobalt blue

Condition: almost perfect structurally, with just a small very old flake off the inner part of the heel underneath (see photos, no real harm). The lip is good. The pontil is heavily frosted but no iron residue. The only issue is that there is some overall high point wear and light swirl etching. Hardly any patchy stain. It was only rinsed out, and with a gentle polish cleaning this should really sparkle.
