This is a stoneware mead from Philadelphia in the hefty quart size. Circa 1855-1860. There are many variants of the McKinney mead bottles. This one is the arched lettering type.
Debossed on shoulder: F. McKINNEY'S / MEAD.
Height: 10 1/4"
Color: tan with beige dimples and blended chocolate up one side
Condition: no cracks or recent chips. There is a 3/8" flake off the blob that looks ancient, possibly from manufacturing. There is also a small potstone in the glaze with an unglazed pockmark, which is defintiely manufacturing and shows the crudity.
