G. H. ARMSTRONG, Philadelphia - Rare Oval Slug Plate Squat, Circa 1845-1550

From my own collection that I've been thinning out, here is an iron pontiled chunky-sized squat. There are only 4-5 squats from Philly that have oval slugs like this. And to my knowledge, all of the known whole examples of this bottle came out of the same privy on south Broad Street in Philly. This particular bottle is one of the nicer known examples, which came out of the Danny Catherino collection. The iron pontil is super crude on a very deep pushed up base. The double taper top is drippy, and the bottle has nice hammered whittle character.

Embossed: G. H. / ARMSTRONG / 327 SH ST

Height:  7 3/8"
Color: deep green

Condition: a dug bottle that has only been rinsed out. It has some patchy haze and light overall wear but not bad at all. The only structural issue is the lip has a super shallow 1/4" sliver flake plus a few teeny nips off the lip, just slightly rough. No cracks, and the lip issues are super inot. Most examples of this bottle have more signifcant cork pry type damage.
