D. McCURDY, Philadelphia - Circa 1855 Pontiled Philadelphia Slug Plate Squat

Pared from my collection is this super tough McCurdy variant. This one does not have the star on the shoulder and has much larger font size. I've only ever seen two of these for sale. This one I dug in a Philly privy in 1999. The base has a clear iron pontil but no residue. It has an applied double taper top.

Embossed: D. McCURDY / SCHUYL 6TH & SOUTH ST / PHILADA

Height: 7 1/2"
Color: deep grass green

Condition: very clean for a dug bottle - just some light patchy haze. Surface wear is just spotty light trace wear. Only issue is that there are 2 very old and fairly shallow 1/4" chips off the heel underneath. No biggie, but priced down $100 for those. Never tumble polished - natural patina.

Reference Number:  1922

Price: $250
